50 maal 'elektronica van vroeger'. In het januarinummer 2005 van het elektronica-maandblad Elektor zag de rubriek 'Retrotronica' voor het eerst het licht. Onder supervisie van Elektor-redacteur Jan Buiting wordt sindsdien elke maand een stukje 'elektronica van vroeger' opgerakeld. Tegenwoordig worden de meeste elektronische schakelingen opgebouwd rond een microcontroller die het 'denkwerk' voor zijn rekening neemt. Nog niet zo heel lang geleden echter bestonden die dingen nog niet (of waren ze onbetaalbaar); niettemin slaagden de ontwerpers van toen er (naar huidige maatstaven) verbijsterend goed in om uiterst betrouwbaar en nauwkeurig werkende schakelingen en apparatuur te bouwen. Veel apparaten blijken, na jaren op een stoffige zolder of in een vochtige kelder te hebben gestaan, na een schoonmaakactie nog perfect te functioneren -- er is dus geen reden om de 'elektronica van vroeger' met een meewarige blik te bekijken; integendeel: het zijn vaak wondertjes van vernuft en vakmanschap! Die chinesische Firma Espressif Systems hat den neuen Mikrocontroller ESP32 entwickelt, das Nachfolgemodell des ESP8266-WiFi-Chips. Zusätzlich zu allen ESP8266-Funktionen stellt der ESP32 nun Bluetooth-Funk, einen größeren SRAM-Datenspeicher, mehr GPIOs, mehr Schnittstellen, einen Touch-Sensor, einen Temperatursensor, höhere CPU-Geschwindigkeit, einen CAN-Bus, ADCs mit höherer Auflösung, DACs und Sicherheitsfunktionen bereit. Der ESP32 ist Arduino-kompatibel. Dieses Buch ist eine Einführung in den ESP32-Prozessor und beschreibt die wichtigsten Hardware- und Software-Features dieses Chips. Das Hauptziel des Buches ist es, dem Leser zu vermitteln, wie man ESP32-Hard- und Software in praktischen Projekten einsetzt, vor allem durch Verwendung des hochmodernen ESP32-Entwicklungsboards. Im Buch sind viele einfache, grundlegende und weitere Projekte mittlerer Schwierigkeit auf Basis des Entwicklungsboards ESP32 DevKitC samt der beliebten Arduino-IDE und der Programmiersprache MicroPython enthalten. Die Projekte sind nach aufsteigender Komplexität organisiert.

Eén ding hebben alle elektronische schakelingen en apparaten gemeen: de werking ervan staat of valt met de voeding. Alleen al daarom verdient deze deelschakeling speciale aandacht. Dit boek behandelt principes en schakelingen uit de praktijk van de voedingstechniek. Geheel in overeenstemming met de huidige trend gaat de auteur in het bijzonder in op 'mobiele' voedingen en op de techniek van schakelende voedingen. Ook wordt aandacht besteed aan het feit dat constante-stroombronnen ten opzichte van spanningsbronnen een steeds belangrijker rol gaan spelen. Naast de vereiste theoretische achtergronden en principes voor het ontwerpen en bouwen van eigen voedingsschakelingen biedt dit boek ook praktische toepassingsvoorbeelden, zoals het vervangen van defecte nettransformatoren, de voeding voor elektronica tijdens fietstochten of het aansturen van LED‘s in de verlichtingstechniek. Auteur Franz Peter Zantis is afgestudeerd als ingenieur communicatietechniek en houdt zich als elektronicus bezig met energie-installaties. Tijdens een onderzoeksproject heeft hij zich grondig verdiept in de stroomvoorziening van zelfstandig werkende apparaten en hij heeft talrijke artikelen over schakelende voedingen gepubliceerd.

Er zijn talloze diepgravende elektronica-leerboeken op de markt.
