59 Experiments with Arduino IDE and Python The main aim of this book is to teach the Arduino IDE and MicroPython programming languages in ESP32 based projects, using the highly popular ESP32 DevKitC development board. Many simple, basic, and intermediate level projects are provided in the book using the Arduino IDE with ESP32 DevKitC. All projects have been tested and work. Block diagrams, circuit diagrams, and complete program listings of all projects are given with explanations. In addition, several projects are provided for programming the ESP32 DevKitC using MicroPython. Onder supervisie van Elektor-redacteur Jan Buiting wordt sindsdien elke maand een stukje 'elektronica van vroeger' opgerakeld. Tegenwoordig worden de meeste elektronische schakelingen opgebouwd rond een microcontroller die het 'denkwerk' voor zijn rekening neemt. Nog niet zo heel lang geleden echter bestonden die dingen nog niet (of waren ze onbetaalbaar); niettemin slaagden de ontwerpers van toen er (naar huidige maatstaven) verbijsterend goed in om uiterst betrouwbaar en nauwkeurig werkende schakelingen en apparatuur te bouwen. Veel apparaten blijken, na jaren op een stoffige zolder of in een vochtige kelder te hebben gestaan, na een schoonmaakactie nog perfect te functioneren -- er is dus geen reden om de 'elektronica van vroeger' met een meewarige blik te bekijken; integendeel: het zijn vaak wondertjes van vernuft en vakmanschap! In dit boek hebben we 50 bijdragen uit de rubriek 'Retrotronica' voor u gebundeld - een must voor iedereen die geïnteresseerd is in 'oude' elektronica of in de geschiedenis van het maandblad Elektor (destijds Elektuur), aangezien enkele 'klassieke' Elektuur-schakelingen prominent aan bod komen!

An Introduction to RISC-V RISC-V is an Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) that is both free and open. This means that the RISC-V ISA itself does not require a licensing fee, although individual implementations may do so. The RISC-V ISA is curated by a non-profit foundation with no commercial interest in products or services that use it, and it is possible for anyone to submit contributions to the RISC-V specifications. The RISC-V ISA is suitable for applications ranging from embedded microcontrollers to supercomputers. This book will first describe the 32-bit RISC-V ISA, including both the base instruction set as well as the majority of the currently-defined extensions. The book will then describe, in detail, an open-source implementation of the ISA that is intended for embedded control applications. This implementation includes the base instruction set as well as a number of standard extensions. After the description of the CPU design is complete the design is expanded to include memory and some simple I/O. The resulting microcontroller will then be implemented in an affordable FPGA development board (available from Elektor) along with a simple software application so that the reader can investigate the finished design.

The intention of this book is to offer the reader understandings, ideas and solutions from the perspective of a workbench technician and electronics hobbyist. It is a descriptive text with many tables of useful data, servicing tips and supplementary notes of not so common knowledge. Today there is a re-emerging, nostalgic interest in vinyl records and associated music entertainment gear. With this interest, there is a paralleled market for the repair of this gear. This ‘hands-on’ servicing guide opens with fundamental considerations of the work space of repair and servicing. This includes a comprehensive discussion of essential test equipment and tools. Two chapters are devoted to obtaining servicing information about repair and obtaining spare parts. A key chapter is on general diagnosis and testing and includes the discussion of resistance, capacitance and inductance. These electrical properties are regularly in the mind of the repairer, so understanding of them is a key objective of this book. The next chapter is about time saving repair techniques and ensuring quality repair. The remaining chapters discuss entertainment equipment itself. Each of the chapters begins with an orderly discussion of the theory of operation and common and not so common problems specific to the equipment. All chapters conclude with a summary.
