Wie enigszins bekend is met moderne microprocessor systemen als Arduino, kent ongetwijfeld ook de problemen met dit soort kaarten. Ze zijn te duur om voor elk project een aparte kaart aan te schaffen en zijn bovendien nogal fors van formaat. Het aardige van de ATtiny is dat de schijn bedriegt. Het lijkt een klein IC met een beperkt toepassingsgebied, maar het heeft een verbazingwekkend scala aan (speelse) mogelijkheden. Dit boek beschrijft de enorme veelzijdigheid van de ATtiny microcontroller aan de hand van ongeveer vijftig leuke elektronica projecten, speciaal gericht op de beginner.  De meeste ontwerpen zijn volledig uitgewerkt, enkele zijn meer als ontwerpidee gepresenteerd. De inhoudsopgave laat zien dat we ons op vele terreinen zullen begeven, van zonnevolger tot helling indicator. Dit boek is beslist geen theorieboek. Het is een boek dat gelezen zal worden met de soldeerbout in de hand. Voor het programmeren van de ATtiny maken we dankbaar gebruik van een Arduino kaart. Als de Arduino ingesteld word als programmer, kunnen we er de meeste Arduino “sketches” mee overzetten naar de ATtiny. We wensen u veel plezier met het nabouwen van de schakelingen.

Although the Arduino isn’t a novelty any longer, there are still many beginners who want to try programming and development with a microcontroller, and to them, it is all new. All beginnings can be difficult, though they should be light and enjoyable. You do not need much or expensive equipment for the examples. The circuits are built on a small breadboard, and, if necessary, connected to an Arduino Uno, which you can program on a Windows PC. An Introduction to RISC-V RISC-V is an Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) that is both free and open. This means that the RISC-V ISA itself does not require a licensing fee, although individual implementations may do so. The RISC-V ISA is curated by a non-profit foundation with no commercial interest in products or services that use it, and it is possible for anyone to submit contributions to the RISC-V specifications. The RISC-V ISA is suitable for applications ranging from embedded microcontrollers to supercomputers. This book will first describe the 32-bit RISC-V ISA, including both the base instruction set as well as the majority of the currently-defined extensions. The book will then describe, in detail, an open-source implementation of the ISA that is intended for embedded control applications. This implementation includes the base instruction set as well as a number of standard extensions. After the description of the CPU design is complete the design is expanded to include memory and some simple I/O. The resulting microcontroller will then be implemented in an affordable FPGA development board (available from Elektor) along with a simple software application so that the reader can investigate the finished design.

Architecture, Programming and Applications The MSP430 is a popular family of microcontrollers from Texas Instruments. In this book we will work with the smallest type, which is the powerful MSP430G2553. We will look at the capabilities of this microcontroller in detail, as it is well-suited for self-made projects because it is available in a P-DIP20 package. We will take a closer look at the microcontroller and then build, step by step, some interesting applications, including a 'Hello World' blinking LED and a nice clock application, which can calculate the day of the week based on the date. You also will learn how to create code for the MSP microcontroller in assembler. In addition to that, we will work with the MSP-Arduino IDE, which makes it quite easy to create fast applications without special in-depth knowledge of the microcontrollers. All the code used in the book is available for download from the Elektor website.

Dit boek gaat over de Raspberry Pi, en over het programmeren in C. De programmeertaal C en het besturingssysteem Linux (Raspbian) passen uitstekend bij elkaar. Alles wat we nodig hebben om in C te programmeren wordt meegeleverd met het besturingssysteem van de Raspberry Pi. In dit boek leert u hoe C gebruikt wordt met de Raspberry Pi, en krijgt u een overzicht van de taal. WiringPi is een softwarebibliotheek voor de Raspberry Pi waarmee C hardware-uitbreidingen kan benaderen. Die bibliotheek wordt gebruikt om sensoren uit te lezen en om extra hardware aan te sturen. U gaat experimenteren met LED’s en schakelaars, met motoren, met geluid en met sensoren voor temperatuur, luchtdruk, en luchtvochtigheid. Met een Linux-systeem kunt u een webserver maken, inclusief interactieve websites met PHP en WiringPi. Daarom is ook een beknopt overzicht van HTML en PHP in het boek opgenomen. In de voorbeelden worden sensoren via het web uitgelezen en worden apparaten bestuurd. In het laatste voorbeeld wordt een temperatuurlogger gemaakt. Die meet elk kwartier de temperatuur. Elektronische systemen in een voertuig worden steeds belangrijker. Dit wordt mede veroorzaakt door de toenemende milieu- en veiligheidseisen en de wensen ten aanzien van het comfort. Dit leidt niet alleen tot een toename van het aantal regeleenheden (tot 80 stuks in een enkel voertuig) maar deze regeleenheden, die vaak van verschillende leveranciers zijn, moeten ook met elkaar communiceren. Vanaf 2008 is het voor nieuwe voertuigen die voor typegoedkeuring worden aangeboden, verplicht om ten aanzien van emissiegerelateerde storingen via de CAN-bus met een externe diagnosetester te communiceren, volgens een door Europese regelgeving vastgestelde norm. Er wordt uitgebreid aandacht besteed aan de opbouw en werking van het CAN-protocol, gezien vanuit zowel de software als de hardware. Onderwerpen die aan bod komen zijn onder andere de opbouw van een CAN-bericht, de prioriteitsregeling en de fysieke verbinding. Behalve de CAN-bus komt ook EOBD via de CAN-bus uitgebreid aan de orde: hoe werkt EOBD, en welke diagnostische gegevens zijn met behulp van een diagnosetester toegankelijk. De ‘rode draad’ wordt gevormd door de regelgeving van de Europese Unie en de internationale ISO- en SAE-normen. Deze regelgeving en normen moeten er voor zorgen dat de milieubelasting tot een minimum wordt beperkt en een milieugerelateerde storing snel gesignaleerd (en gerepareerd) wordt. Na het doorlezen en bestuderen van de inhoud wordt de CAN-bus en de diagnose via de CAN-bus voor iedereen inzichtelijk; de hobbyist die een CAN-bericht wil begrijpen en eventueel een eigen CAN-bussysteem wil opzetten, de sleutelaar die de storingen van zijn eigen voertuig wil uitlezen en repareren, maar ook de professionele diagnosetechnicus die een lastige fout moet opsporen. Daarnaast kunnen studenten en ontwikkelaars van CAN- en EOBD-applicaties door bestuderen en vooral experimenteren een basis leggen voor eigen toepassingen.
